Monks in Action
Whether it is making a commitment to seeking God in the Order of the Holy Cross, travelling long distances or just plain getting on with ordinary daily living at the monastery, we are a busy and creative group of people. We pray. We welcome guests to the Guesthouse from all walks of life. We look after many of the educational, emotional and spiritual needs of over 40 children (and sometimes more) This sometimes includes driving them to their tutoring sessions, sports games, extra school activities, helping them with university applications or just being there for them at their graduations, award ceremonies or simply their struggles and successes. We fundraise. We preach and teach. We read. We study. We sing and chant. One of us plays cricket with the children. One of us plays the harp. Another draws. Another writes. One manages this website and produces a newsletter twice a year. Another gardens. And another adds a decorative flair to many of the buildings. All of these activities make for a rich living out of our monastic vocation and adds a whole new dimension to our journey of conversion. Here are some of the scenes of the day in the life of a monk of Mariya uMama weThemba. [ click on images to enlarge ]
