Holy Cross School

Some might say that it was inevitable, but we would like to say that it was only the natural direction for our ministry as the Order of the Holy Cross at Mariya uMama weThemba Monastery here in Grahamstown. The Order of the Holy Cross is starting a pre-school on the monastery property, and we are both thrilled and awed by this endeavour at the same time. I suppose those feelings are all just part of the process when responding to the opportunities that God provides for us.

The long history of the Order has involved the establishment of and participation in many schools in Connecticut, California and Tennessee in the US, Canada, Liberia and Ghana. So, we are continuing the tradition and beginning Holy Cross School here in Grahamstown.

We were planning to be ready by January 2011 but decided that with an excellent teacher who has expertise with young pre-schoolers ready to go tomorrow, Ntombekaya Myeki, and the After-School building available in the mornings, we thought, Why wait? Hopefully, the first day of school will be the beginning of the January term in 2010. The 12 rural children in our area who are in Grade R will be its first students.

Just some challenges – it will take money. We will need both the money to start it and maintain and for possible for future building of grades on to the school. We would like to add a grade each year up to Grade 3 and each time we add a grade we will need the space and the facilities to do so. So please consider a financial gift to this worthy project. The rural children of South Africa will thank you when they know the wonderful opportunity God has given them.

Please pray for us as we begin this exciting and challenging adventure into Christ’s demand to not overlook God’s children. And please consider making a donation.
