Holy Cross School Children at Diocesan School for Girls and St. Andrew's Preschool
Our Holy Cross School (HCS) children have been hosted by other schools in the area on two occasions recently. On the 16th of June, 2011, the children from Holy Cross School were taken to St. Andrew's College in Grahamstown to celebrate National Youth Day by attending a concert presented by students from St. Andrew's College and Diocesan School for Girls (DSG). The HCS children watched and listened to the concert band, the choirs, the jazz band, the cast from the school musical, as well as poetry and speeches by members of the student body and a special guest. The theme of the day was how the youth of South Africa can make a difference for all South Africans, especially those youth who have the privileges that other South African youth don't have. While there, the HCS children were taken under the wing of members of the DSG Interact Club. The Interact Club girls accompanied them during the concert and also shared a meal with them in the school dining hall. The Interact Club is part of the outreach of Diocesan School for Girls and has been instrumental in raising awareness of Holy Cross School among the DSG students and has also helped to raise R10,000 for Holy Cross School already. And then, on Nelson Mandela International Day, HCS children spent some time at St. Andrew's Preschool. They enjoyed good fun meeting the St. Andrew's children and spending the day playing together and learning about Nelson Mandela with them. We are so grateful for both these Grahamstown schools' kindness and their great show of support for Holy Cross School. We look forward to developing more ways in which our schools can interact.
